On July 29, 2023, at the Conference Center of Quang Ninh, the University of Ha Long solemnly held a commencement for students graduating in July 2023.
Welcoming performance
Attending the ceremony, the side of Quang Ninh Province’s leaders, there were: Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh (Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh Province), Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha (Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Quang Ninh Province). Ninh); on the side of the invited delegates were Mr. Takebe Tsutomu (Special Advisor of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Alliance; Special Advisor of Ha Long University), Mr. Watana Beshige (Deputy Embassy of Japan in Vietnam), Mr. Nakata Takahiro (Honorary Consul of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Sapporo, Head of Hokkaido Festival Organizing Committee in Ha Long on the Japanese side), and leaders of universities and colleges in the province. On the side of Ha Long University, there were Mr. Tran Trung Vy (Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector), Mr. Nguyen Duc Tiep (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Mr. Principal), and representatives of the Board of Directors, lectures, parents, and especially nearly 600 students graduating in 2023.

This is the largest graduation ceremony since the establishment of the University, held at the Provincial Conference Center and attended and congratulated by the provincial leaders, international guests and distinguished guests. All of which show the continuous development of Ha Long University in terms of size and position.
In 2023, Ha Long University has 619 eligible students to graduate in 11 disciplines, including: Computer Science, English Language, Chinese Language, Japanese Language, Korean Language,Management of tourism and travel services, Hotel management, Restaurant and food service management, Cultural management, Aquaculture, Natural resources and environment management. The grading results include: 09 students got the Excellent Degree, 74 students got the Very good Degree, 381 students got the Good Degree. Many students have been contracted to work with agencies and businesses in Quang Ninh and other parts of the country before and right after graduation.

At the Graduation Ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Duc Tiep (Rector of the University) congratulated the new graduates for overcoming challenges to complete the course successfully. These are testaments of their determination and unceasing efforts during their study time at Ha Long University. In addition, there is the concern of the family, the dedication and enthusiasm of the teachers, the facilitation of agencies and businesses, and the support of the regime and policies of Quang Ninh province. The Rector believes that the students would take advantage of the knowledge they had accumulated during the study time to realize their dreams. He also hopes that new bachelors will always cherish the values that Ha Long University has brought, believe in themselves, use these values to develop themselves and contribute to the country’s development.

Delivering a speech at the Ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh (Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh Province) congratulated the new graduates. She acknowledged the contributions and achievements that the teachers and students of the University have achieved in recent years. On behalf of the provincial leaders, she suggested that Ha Long University’s cadres, lecturers, and employees continue to perform essential tasks such as improving the quality of teaching, professional capacity, and foreign language ability. By 2025, the University aims to have at least 25% of lecturers with doctorate degrees, continues to improve the quality of training programs associated with the practical requirements of society, promotes the training model with close cooperation between the University – Scientists – Entrepreneurs, actively researches to open training programs that the province is in dire need of. From 2025 to 2030, the scale of training systems will reach about 10,000 students. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the quality of governance, which focuses on improving the management and administration capacity of the leaders while promoting digital transformation and soon building Ha Long University into a digital University. Besides, the University should effectively implement international cooperation programs in training activities, scientific research, and exchange of lecturers and students, taking advantage of the advice and support of Special Advisor Takebe Tsutomu and other partners to establish and open the Japanese Language Center on October 13, 2023. Also, she emphasized that keeping up the tradition, building the school’s collective unity, dynamism, and creativity, and implementing the motto and direction of the province, with actions that are the “5 truths” (thinking the truth, speaking the truth, doing truly, and having true effectivity, and people benefit truthfully), and “6 dares” (dare to face difficulties – challenge, dare to think, dare to speak, dare to do, dare to take responsibility, dare to innovate) are the goals that we need to accomplish.

At the ceremony, the University rewarded typical graduates, who achieved excellent results in the whole course and held a graduation ceremony for all 619 graduates in 2023.
Jazz artist Keiko Borjeson (Japan) performed at the Graduation Ceremony.
In particular, Jazz artist Keiko Borjeson (Japan), who holds a music degree in Tokyo, Italy, and the USA, participated in the event to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan and the 50th anniversary of the relationship between Vietnam and Japan. At the ceremony, she performed “Koibito Yo” and “We are the World”. The performance was one of the highlights, attracting the cheers of delegates, distinguished guests, parents, and new graduates.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of more than 600 new bachelors, Pham Thu Uyen (class of Tourism and Travel Services K5) expressed deep gratitude to the Board of Directors, the functional offices, and especially the teachers who had accompanied her throughout the campus life. At the same time, she also showed gratitude to the People’s Council of Quang Ninh province, the businesses that have developed policies to support students during their studies and internships. Graduating students in 2023, she wishes the University of Ha Long to thrive and continue to become a high-quality human resource training base for the region and the whole country.
